Himanshu Kaushik, TNN, Dec 8, 2010, 02.56am IST
AHMEDABAD: Next time if you want to drive down to the last abode of Asiatic lions in Junagadh and also visit the golden temple in Amritsar, there is no need to contact two tour operators. Gujarat tourism department is here to assist you to make arrangements for you even in Amritsar, Punjab.
The state tourism, to bring in tourists to Gujarat and to market its sight-seeing spots, has entered into a pact with Karnataka, Punjab and Rajasthan for inter-state tourism. The state is working on modalities to sign similar a deal with Goa tourism department too.
The tourism department has started selling north Gujarat with Rajasthan and is promoting Shamlaji, Kesariyaji, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Haldighati, Nathdwara, Charbhuja, Ranakpura, Mount Abu in Rajasthan spots along with Ambaji, Kumbharia, Modhera and Bahucharaji.
Tourism secretary, Vipul Mitra, said the state has entered into memoranda of understanding with Rajasthan, Karnataka and Punjab, which has a large number of NRI visitors. "The MoUs will help towards mutual promotion of tourism, showcasing each others' cultural heritage to tourists and felicitating inbound travel into respective states," Mitra said. The states will mutually market their accommodation facilities and tourism packages.
Sources said that the next in the line is Goa where the state is planning to promote wildlife, religious and beach tourism. Officials said that Goa has pacts with five other states, including Meghalaya, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Karnataka and Sikkim. Manish Sharma, president of Gujarat Association of Tour Operators, said that signing the MoU is in the interest of the state. "Rajasthan has been promoting Gir and the effect is that schools from Rajasthan have visited Gir for watching Asiatic lions."
"We have been promoting Rajasthan and they have been offering joint packages along with Somnath and Dwarka apart from Gir. Around 20 to 22 per cent of the tourists who arrived in the state were through inter-state tourist operators," he added. Jayendrasinh Jadeja, member of GATO, said, "This should have begun much before. But the government did not pay attention. But now with chief minister Narendra Modi taking tourism seriously, the state is set to promote inter state-tourism, which is a good sign."

Worldnews Asia India Carla Bruni prayed for a son while at Indian shrine Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti
By Dean Nelson in New Delhi 2:16PM GMT 06 Dec 2010
The French first couple were visiting Fatehpur Sikri, a shrine to the Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, after they returned from a romantic dusk tour of the Taj Mahal, India's celebrated "monument to love" in Agra.
Their earlier visit had provoked protests and panic when thousands of tourists were forced to leave quickly so the Sarkozys could be alone at the monument.
After they reached Fatehpur Sikri on Sunday, they had a private audience with Muslim cleric Peerzada Rais Mian Chishti, the shrine's guardian, who told the president and his wife that it had been built by the childless Mughal emperor Akbar so that he might be blessed with a son. He was soon rewarded with his first son, Prince Salim, who later became Emperor Jahangir.
Since then the shine has become a last hope for millions of visitors praying for miracle cures, jobs, pregnancies and brides.
The cleric on Monday described "Begum Sarkozy" as an "extremely family orientated lady" and revealed how she had told him she too was praying for a son.
She and Mr Sarkozy had covered their heads with caps, walked barefoot to the shrine, and then placed rose petals on the saint's tomb before praying for a son.
As they listened to traditional Qawali devotional songs, the French first lady asked the cleric to pray for Aurélien, her nine year old son from her relationship with philosophy professor Raphael Enthoven, and "pray that I have another". President Sarkozy has three children from his previous marriage. The cleric tied two threads around her wrist, and blew on it to help their wish come true.
"They were told Mughal Emperor Akbar was blessed with a son after praying at the shrine. They tied a thread and Carla asked me to pray so that she has a son. Before leaving, both of them again asked me to pray at the shrine to bless them with a son," he told The Daily Telegraph

What is the difference between e-ticket & i-ticket in Indian railway ticket booking ?
Indian Railways i-Ticket and E-Ticket Booking
Both i-Ticket and E-Ticket are the Internet Online Booking tickets via http://www.irctc.co.in/ but these 2 tickets having some difference that difference is explained as follows
i-Ticket
In the case of i-Ticket service charge of Rs.40 per ticket in lower class and Rs. 60 per ticket in upper class (maximum 6 passengers per ticket) is leviable in addition to the train faire.
But this type of service will delivered the ticket without any extra cost. And maximum 10 tickets booked in an individual account.
Will get the e-mail to the mail id you are provided in the IRCTC says the total fare taken for the ticket and the beth position of your ticket.
If the ticket is not booked then that information you will get from the menu "Booked Ticket History" in the http://www.irctc.co.in/ site home page.
E-Ticket
Indian Railways started E - ticket facility since 24.02.2006 to provide fast and secure online ticketing for the passengers.
But in this case the passengers not provided any physical tickets. You can take the print out from the internet anytime after your ticket booked successfully.
In the journey time you have to carry any of the following identity details that is the main difference in the case of E-ticket.
Voter Identity Card
Passport
PAN Card
Driving Licence
Photo identity card issued b the Central / State goventment
If you are forgot to take any of these you will be treated as traveling without ticket. And if you are not carrying the ticket with you then you have to charge Rs. 50.
In the case of E-Ticket service charge of only Rs.10 to 25 per ticket in lower class and Rs. 20 to 40 per ticket in upper class (maximum 6 passengers per ticket) is leviable in addition to the train faire.
As part of the my concern better you go for E-tickets

Train, Rail reservation ticket PNR status on Mobile number and website
PNR status of the Indian Railway is the short form of Passenger Name Record. It is a unique ten digit number which is printed on the ticket at the top left hand corner. In case of those passengers who have reserved their accommodation and like to know the status of their ticket, the PNR number needs to be quoted while making the enquiry.
PNR Status PNR number acts as the primary reference basically and assists in finding and updating the status for reservation and confirmation of ticket. It serves as the database for Railway Reservation system. One can easily find out the confirmation status by mobile and landline phone.
PNR represents the Passenger Current Status and online PNR Status Enquiry is available only between 0500 hrs to 2300 hrs IST. In order to offer faster service now onwards, Indian Railways has decided that PNR Status will be available only for those PNR’s for which date of journey lies within 10 days (inclusive of current day). Therefore, one needs to provide the details of journey date along with the PNR number for getting the current status.
Indian Railways has offered the facility of providing the Train PNR Status on the mobile phones. This has led to great relief and comfort for the passengers. To get the PNR Status over the mobile phone, one need to type in 10 digit PNR number printed on the ticket and sends it via SMS to 9773300000.
PNR Indian Railways has collaborated with Google to offer this facility. By merely messaging the PNR number through cell phone one gets the ticket’s current status in addition to all other journey related details. While sending the SMS to the number 9773300000, one should not prefix 0 or +91. Best part of this service is that one is required to pay the price of standard SMS only and no premium charge is charged to the passengers.
